Roles and permissions

Harmonic has four roles. The design principle behind all of them: nobody gets secret information about a person. Playbooks look the same to everyone.

Member

The default. Members take the questionnaire, have a playbook, give and receive recognition, comment, react, post check-ins, use the coach, and browse teammates’ playbooks.

Manager

Everything a member has, plus their team’s operational view:

  • The team dashboard for their team.
  • Check-in visibility and blocker notifications — when a teammate flags a blocker, the manager hears about it.
  • Celebration prompts for their team’s milestones.

Admin

Everything above, workspace-wide, plus the administrative surface:

  • Invite, remove, and manage people; create teams; assign managers.
  • Company settings, including the Slack connection.
  • The company-wide dashboard.

The person who created the workspace is its first admin. Admins can make other people admins.

Observer

A limited role for someone who needs visibility without participating — for example an external coach or a founder watching a team they’re not in. Observers can view a team without appearing in its roster or taking the questionnaire.

What no role can do

No role — including admin — can see anyone’s individual questionnaire answers presented as scores or grades, because Harmonic doesn’t produce them. There are no hidden manager-only assessments. See Privacy & trust.
